Nicks that Click – Karaka 2022 –Savabeel Secret

Sponsored Content - by Tara Madgwick - Monday January 31

With 11 winners in the past seven days, Waikato Stud’s champion sire Savabeel is powering into another big year in 2022 and his latest Group I winner The Chosen One highlights a lesser known nick that is super potent.

The Chosen One is the 27th G1 winner for Savabeel.

Fifth in the Melbourne Cup last year, quality stayer The Chosen One claimed his first Group I when resuming in the Thorndon Mile last Saturday and in doing so became the fifth stakes-winner for Savabeel bred from a daughter of champion Australian sire Flying Spur.

Those five stakes-winners also include another Group I winner in Shillelagh and Group II winner Tullamore, who was placed in a Caulfield Cup, the SW to runner strike rate for the nick running at an impressive 27.7%!

There is one entry for Karaka Book 1 bred this way and it’s Lot 459, a filly from Group III winner Okahu Bay offered by Trelawney Stud.

The filly is a half-sister to this season’s Group II winning 3YO Pareanui Bay.

The Chosen One has another key factor in his pedigree as his grand-dam The Jewel is by champion sire O’Reilly, whose daughters have a well-documented affinity with Savabeel.

There are 23 stakes-winners bred this way highlighted by seven Group I winners including current stars Mo’Unga, The Perfect Pink and Amarelinha.

There are 123 winners from 165 runners bred this way so it’s over 75% winners to runners and 14% SW to runner.

The following Karaka Book 1 lot numbers are all bred this way 10, 28, 126, 161, 171, 208, 276, 406, 462, 528, 635.
