Breednet Track First Season Sires at the Trials

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday January 19

At this time of year there is great interest in the progeny of first season sires stepping out at the trials so Breednet are tracking them and producing a weekly report which features eight first season sires with trial winners in the pipeline including Galileo’s champion son Highland Reel (IRE), who has had three trial runners since the start of the month, while Merchant Navy is showing signs of activity.

Merchant Navy hasn’t had an unraced trial winner, but he has had a couple of good place-getters and his Gimcrack place-getter Drisana trialled very well earlier this week, so we might be about to see a bit more from the champion son of Fastnet Rock.

He posted his first winner Galaxy Affair last Saturday at Ascot in Perth ( read about him here) and there might be a few more to follow trainers look to unleash their autumn juvenile prospects.

The report catalogues the performance of all progeny of first season sires up until they race offering a quick way to see anything of interest that may be in the pipeline.

These horses remain on the list up until they go to the races, so the list only features UNRACED two year-olds.

First season sires with trial winners on this list this week are: Hellbent, Heroic Valour, Highland Reel (IRE), Impending, Pariah, Ribchester (IRE), Spieth and The Mission.

Several of their heat winners are entered to race this weekend so there will be plenty of action to watch on Saturday.
