First Season Sire Averages

There has been tremendous interest in these first season sires with three heavy hitters in Trapeze Artist (Widden), The Autumn Sun (Arrowfield) and Justify (USA) (Coolmore), who were the most expensive sires going to stud in 2019 by quite a margin.

The Autumn Sun filly from Champagne Run was one of two big sellers on the last night for The Autumn Sun.

Arrowfield Stud’s The Autumn Sun was a big mover on the last night of the sale with his last four lots offered including his two best of the entire sale with the Kitchwin Hills consigned colt from Duchess Kate selling for $950,000 to Bahen Bloodstock/Kris Lees Racing and Arrowfield Stud’s filly from Champagne Run fetching $925,000 to the bid of Matt Laurie Racing/ARJB Racing.

They sold 45 yearlings in total for $18,810,000 ranging in prize from $65,000 up the sale-topping $1.9million I Am Invincible colt from Suspicieuse (Fr).

Leading Buyers

The Magic Millions quinella - Maher and Newgate.

Ciaron Maher and training partner David Eustace won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on Saturday with Coolangatta, a filly they purchased last year for $280,000 and will be hoping they have another just like her in this year’s haul of yearlings.

Coolangatta defeated Russian Conquest, who was bred and sold by Newgate, who retain an interest in her ownership with the daughter of Russian Revolution carrying their colours, so the quinella in this year’s big race featured the leading buyer of the sale and also the leading vendor.

Ciaron Maher Bloodstock was the leading buyer in their own right and signed for an additional eight yearlings in partnership with other purchasers, while Newgate in partnership with China Horse Club were also very active purchasing with their new partner Trilogy Racing.

Top seller for Not a Single Doubt was his $1.7million colt from Miss Admiration.

Not a Single Doubt was leading sire last year and bowed out in style with his final crop putting him at the top of the list for 2022 as well.

Champion stallions I Am Invincible, Snitzel and Savabeel all averaged over $500,000 with I Am Invincible leading sire by aggregate producing the top priced colt and filly of the sale and delivering five individual million dollar yearlings.
