DArley sire Kermadec featured in South Africa on Wednesday with an impressive Australian bred winner at Kenilworth in Sunday Island, who appreciated a step up in distance to a staying trip.
A homebred for Mrs Sabine Plattner trained by Andre Nel, three year-old colt Sunday Island broke his maiden with a five length victory over 2000m.

He is a half-brother to stakes-placed Anse Lanzio and is the fifth winner from five to race from Port Elizabeth (IRE), a winning three-quarter sister by Danehill Dancer to Group III winner Steel Princess, the dam of Group I winner Sarah Lynx and Group III winners Steel Prince and Sugar Boy.Port Elizabeth was on-sold in 2019 for $27,000 at the Inglis Broodmare Sale and has a yearling colt by Harry Angel (IRE) and has foaled this spring producing a filly by Toronado (IRE).
Her two year-old colt by Churchill (IRE) sold at Inglis Classic this year for $160,000 to Frank Cook / John Foote Bloodstock and is called Churchill Bay.
Kermadec has already sired two Australian Group I winners in Montefilia and this year’s VRC Oaks winner Willowy.
