A luckless fourth when on debut at Warwick Farm on December 12, the two-year-old Rebel Dane filly Fireburn made no mistake at her second when overpowering Uncorked in Saturday's Tab Supports Nation Jockeys Hcp (1200m) at Randwick.
Ridden by Jason Collett for trainer Gary Portelli, Fireburn was a menacing presence as Uncorked put two lengths on the chasing pack at the 300m. The Waterhouse-Bott-trained daughter of Pierro had no answer to Fireburn over the final 100m. The Rebel Dane filly hit the line strongly to defeat Uncorked by one and three-quarter lengths with the well-backed, $950,000 I Am Invincible x Snitzerland colt, Himalaism a long-neck back in third.
"The writing was on the wall (following her first run), and she has done a good job sine," Portelli said.
"She is by a sensational sire in Rebel Dane.
'I am so proud of the team getting her here as a 2yo and for the stallion who is doing a fantastic job, and we had a great time with him.
"She is a natural. She has a big motor, a beautiful stride, and she has a magnificent walk.
"We will sit down with Louis (Mihalyka), see how she comes through the run, then make a decision.
"I’m not sure if she is a Golden Slipper type of horse. She might be a horse that gets over a bit further later on, but we are certainly going to win races with her.”
