Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday December 14

A big set of trials at Rosehill on Tuesday morning featured four heats for two year-olds and three were won by youngsters sourced at Magic Millions including the most expensive colt ever sired by Not a Single Doubt, while the appearance of exciting Kiwi trained filly Bright Blue Sky was a highlight.

A $600,000 Magic Millions purchase for David Ellis/Andrew Williams Bloodstock from the Coolmore draft, Fastnet Rock filly Bright Blue Sky was an easy winner of a Listed race on debut in New Zealand on November 20 with Jamie Richards immediately hatching a plan to bring her to Australia for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Ridden by Tommy Berry in her 900m heat, Bright Blue Sky was allowed to settle early and hit the line hard under a hold in third place behind the winner Dame Cartland, who was having her first trial for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

By champion sire Written Tycoon, $200,000 Magic Millions purchase Dame Cartland was bred and sold by Gooree Stud and is from Group III winning Encosta de Lago mare Sultry Feeling, a half-sister to Group III winner Swift Alliance.

The quickest of the four heats was won by Not a Single Doubt filly Pantonario, who was third on debut to Coolangatta in the Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes.

A $750,000 Magic Millions purchase, Pantonario is a full sister to Group III placed speedster Legend of Condor and has a full brother entered for Magic Millions as Lot 436 by Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm.

She was one of two heat winners for Not a Single Doubt, who also had his expensive colt Man in the Mirror win his heat for Annabel Neasham.

It was the second trial for Man in the Mirror, who showed good tractability and talent with this win and looks ready for race day.

$1.8 million colt Man in the Mirror

The most expensive yearling ever sired by Not a Single Doubt having fetched $1.8million at Magic Millions for Emirates Park, Man in the Mirror is the first foal of former slick two year-old One More Honey, who won the Group II ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes and is a half-sister by Onemorenomore to Group I winner Vega One.

The only heat winner not Magic Millions sold was Capitalist colt Captain Bond, a homebred for Bert Vieira trained by Sterling Alexiou and Gerald Ryan, who put the polish on Vieira’s former champion colt Trapeze Artist.

Captain Bond led all the way to win by a head and is sadly the first and only foal of imported Elusive Quality mare Gold Tinker (USA), a winner at 5f and a half-sister to stakes-winner Thieves Guild from stakes-winner Gilded Gold.
