The Listed Prix Luthier (1500m) on the all weather track at Deauville over the weekend produced a stakes quinella for Coolmore shuttler Wootton Bassett (GB) with Amilcar scoring a three-quarter length over Midlife Crisis, who is out of an Australian mare from a very well known family.
Already a stakes-winner Amilcar, has won five races and placed four times from 10 starts proving a model of consistency, while the runner-up Midlife Crisis is a progressive three year-old with an interesting pedigree.
Amilcar is the 14th stakes-winner this year for Wootton Bassett and is the best of five winners from stakes-winning King’s Best mare Drosia.
The runner-up Midlife Crisis is one of two winners from Australian bred Manhattan Rain mare The Hunt is On, a winning fill sister to Group III winner Runaway and half-sister to Group I winners Abbey Marie and Absolutely as well as to the dam of Group winners Mount Pleasant and Quantum Mechanic.
The family also features dual Group I winner Nettoyer who sold as a broodmare prospect this year at Magic Millions for $900,000.
Wootton Bassett has covered an outstanding book of mares in Australia this spring at a fee of $71,500.
