Reward For Effort Sadly Euthanised

Media Release - Tuesday November 23

Larneuk Stud has announced that leading Victorian stallion, Reward For Effort, was euthanised on Tuesday due to complications from surgery.

Following a successful career at Chatswood Stud, the Exceed And Excel stallion was relocated to Larneuk Stud last month, but was withdrawn from service due to an existing foot abscess.

RIP Reward for Effort

With over 60% winners to runners and speed horses such as Gold Symphony, Ability, Brugal Reward, Blondie, No Effort, Take Pride, Dalradian and Desert Lashes – all black type winners – Reward For Effort’s versatility was clearly evidenced by this season’s stakes winner and middle distance campaigner, No Effort. Reward For Effort has produced 336 winners of $34 million in progeny earnings.

“This really is tragic,” Larneuk Stud’s Neville Murdoch points out.

“All of us at the farm and the shareholders in the horse are absolutely devastated … he (Reward For Effort) really made an impression with us from the short time he was on farm and it’s also a tremendous blow to Victoria’s breeding industry. Not only has he produced a lot of winners, I’m absolutely convinced the best was yet to come.”
