NZ Breeding Awards Rescheduled

Media Release - Friday November 19

The best in the New Zealand thoroughbred breeding industry will be celebrated in the New Year.

One of the many events rescheduled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ebbett VW National Breeding Awards will now be held on February 20, 2022 with the NZTBA’s iconic breeding awards being revealed in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

From December 3, one each of the Eight Carat Broodmare of the Year sponsored by Arion Pedigrees, New Zealand Small Breeder of the Year sponsored by Luigi Muollo and Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan New Zealand Breeder of the Year will be announced each week.

The Group One awards, Personality and Mary Lynne Ryan Young Achiever Awards will be announced in February at the breeding awards event.

“It is unfortunate the awards have had to be pushed to next year though it is important to be able to celebrate our breeders’ success,” NZTBA chief executive Justine Sclater said.

“We will announce the winners of the Broodmare of the Year, Small Breeder of the Year and Breeder of the Year in the three weeks leading up to Christmas with video presentations.

“It is a case of making the best of the situation and giving the award winners the recognition they deserve.”

The outdoor event will be held at the Mystery Creek Events Centre with further details to come once the regulations around hospitality and events are confirmed. - NZ RAcing Desk
