2020 Australian Cup Winner Retiring to Stud in Ireland

Tara Madgwick - Thursday November 11

Winner of the 2020 Group I VRC Australian Cup when trained by the Hayes Dabernig team, blue-blood stallion Fifty Stars (IRE) has been retired and will take up a position in Ireland at Sunnyhill Stud to stand as a National Hunt stallion in partnership with Bloodstock.Racing.

G1 winner in Australia, Fifty Stars is retiring to stud in the UK- image Grant Courtney.

A 110,000gns purchase by John Foote from Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Fifty Stars raced exclusively in Australia for Victorian owner Gerry Ryan starting his career with Darren Weir winning his first four starts in maiden and restricted grade in 2018.

He developed into a quality WFA middle distance horse with his Australian Cup win over Regal Power and Vow and Declare the highlight of a career that produced 10 wins and 7 placings from 36 starts with earnings topping $2.7million.

Michael Hickey of Sunnyhill Stud added: “I look forward to standing Fifty Stars at Sunnyhill. He was a top-class, consistent racehorse and retired sound from his racing career. He is a smashing looking individual with great presence and a wonderful walk, and of course he's by a champion in Sea The Stars.

"The fact he had the speed to win from seven to ten furlongs should appeal to National Hunt breeders and we look forward to having him available for inspection shortly.”
