Media Release - Wednesday November 10

Over the last few weeks, dozens of feature races across Australasia and abroad have enhanced pedigrees throughout the catalogue for New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2021 Ready to Run Sale.

A headline act is Lot 218, who is now a sibling to a Group One winner. Offered by Ohukia Lodge, the son of Sacred Falls (NZ) is a half-brother to Never Been Kissed (NZ) (Tivaci), who won last month’s Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) for three-year-old fillies at Randwick. The Waikato Stud filly backed up a week later against top-quality male three-year-olds and finished second in the Group One Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).

Lot 218 is also related to the superstar Karaka graduate Probabeel (NZ) (Savabeel), who has added further big-race success this spring to her glittering record – winning the Group One Might And Power Stakes (2000m) and Group Three Cockram Stakes (1200m), along with a second placing in the Group One Underwood Stakes (1800m). This is also the family of this season’s highly promising dual black-type winner Bellacontte (NZ) (Burgundy).

Lot 108 comes from the same high-class family, being a close relative to Probabeel, and has received similar updates to his pedigree page.

Lot 229 is a half-brother to Pareanui Bay (NZ) (Lonhro), who has kicked off his racing career in spectacular style in New Zealand this spring. The Tony Pike-trained three-year-old scored superb wins in both of his two starts to date, including the Group Two Sarten Memorial (1400m) at Te Rapa on October 25.

Lot 92 is a half-brother to Chapada (Bullet Train), who placed in the Group One Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington this spring, while Lot 179’s half-sister Crowning Star (Hallowed) picked up a valuable Group Three placing in the Thompson Handicap (1600m) at Trentham.

Lot 321 is closely related to Noverre (NZ) (Savabeel), a new sensation of New Zealand’s 2021-22 three-year-old crop. The filly is by Sacred Falls out of Suriyan (NZ), who is by Noverre’s sire Savabeel and is a half-sister to Noverre’s dam Magic Dancer (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle).

An $800,000 purchase by Te Akau’s David Ellis at Karaka 2020, the Jamie Richards-trained Noverre has scored dazzling come-from-behind wins in the Group Three War Decree Stakes (1600m) and Group One New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m) in his last two starts.

Lot 91 comes from the same family as the incomparable Verry Elleegant (NZ) (Zed), who further secured her place in Australasian racing folklore with a four-length romp under 57 kilograms in this month’s Melbourne Cup (3200m).

The Kiwi-bred megastar mare has now won 10 Group One races and more than A$14 million, and she also placed in the Cox Plate (2040m) in late October. Verry Elleegant has won Group One races over distances ranging from 1400 to 3200 metres.

Another relative to Lot 91 is the speedy Jonker (Spirit Of Boom), who took his earnings past A$2 million and hit a new career high with his triumph in the Group One Manikato Stakes (1200m) on October 22.

Other notable pedigree updates include:
  • Lot 95 – closely related to the promising three-year-old Mana Nui (NZ) (No Nay Never), who impressively won last month’s Group Two Hawke’s Bay Guineas (1400m) at Hastings. Another close relative to Lot 95 is Second Slip (NZ) (Alamosa), a recent Listed winner in Adelaide.
  • Lot 162 – from the same family as Shantisara (Coulsty), the winner of the Grade One Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (1800m) at Keeneland in Kentucky. That Irish-bred three-year-old has had five wins and two placings from just nine career starts to date.
  • Lot 238 – this Deep Field colt is closely related to an exciting staying three-year-old talent in Australia, Gunstock (NZ) (Tavistock). Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, Gunstock won twice this spring including in the Group Three Caulfield Classic (2000m).
  • Lot 243 – closely related to Solid Stone (Shamardal), who has scored recent Group Three victories in England in the Winter Hill Stakes (2000m) and Legacy Cup (2200m).
  • Lot 265 – a close relative to House Of Cartier (Alamosa), who has been a highly impressive winner of the Group Three Metric Mile (1600m) and Listed Feilding Gold Cup (2100m) at Awapuni this spring.
