Two year-old stakes racing continues at Flemington on Cup Day with the Group III VRC Maribyrnong Plate (1000m) featuring an interesting field of 11 colts including the half-brother to last Saturday’s Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Home Affairs.
Bought by James Harron Bloodstock for $1,050,000 at Inglis Easter from the Torryburn Stud draft, Capitalist colt Wilbury has a bit to live up to as he is not only a sibling to Home Affairs, but also to Group I placed Aysar.
He is the third foal from Miss Interiors, a winning half-sister by Flying Spur to dual Group I winner Russian Revolution, so expect the Anthony and Sam Freedman trained Wilbury to show plenty of speed from an inside gate jumping from three.
Wilbury is not the only million dollar colt engaged with Zoustar colt Brereton looking to atone for his narrow first up defeat when second in the Listed MRC Debutant Stakes.
The Zoustar colt is drawn next to Wilbury in two and will no doubt be on the job with race experience under his belt.
He was a $1million Magic Millions purchase from the Widden stud draft for Victorian Alliance/Suman Hedge B'Stock (FBAA)/David Redvers Bloodstock and is from Group III winner Fuddle Dee Duddle.
Jumping from gate one is the next most expensive colt in the field and that’s Quinlan, a son of I Am Invincible trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian bott.
A $600,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Baramul Stud draft for Victorian Alliance/Suman Hedge B'Stock (FBAA)/David Redvers Bloodstock , Quinlan is a brother-in-blood to the very fast Flemington stakes-winner Sangria and is a half-brother to stakes-winner Meuse from Group III winner Precious Lorraine.
Precious Lorraine comes from the famed Redoute’s Choice female family, so Black Type for Quinlan will be very valuable indeed!
