Perfetto, Bellissima, Sensazionale!

Media Release - Friday October 29

Castelvecchio’s first foals need an entire Italian dictionary full of extravagant words to describe them.

Castelvecchio stands at Arrowfield Stud.

There’s no doubt where their strength and athleticism, class and character are coming from. Castelvecchio displayed all those attributes at every stage of his exceptional racing career - from his brilliant January 2YO debut, out-of-the-box Inglis Millennium and Group 1 Champagne defeat of Loving Gaby to his Cox Plate second to Japanese champion Lys Gracieux and Group 1 Guineas success as an Autumn 3YO.

Arrowfield’s Nominations Manager Sally Gordon reports, “We now have around 40 Castelvecchio foals on the ground and their consistency is quite remarkable. They all have plenty of Dundeel’s quality, with a big dose of precocity from Castelveccchio himself. We really couldn’t be happier with what we’re seeing.”

As an early-running, Danehill-free son of Dundeel, whose half-sisters G1 Maid of Heaven and G3 Mirrasalo are both by Danehill-line sires, Castelvecchio is an easy choice for Australian breeders. That includes Arrowfield, which has sent him more than 90 mares in his first two seasons.

As we approach the final weeks of the breeding season, it’s worth remembering that October and November-born foals include 9 of last season’s 2YO Group winners, 7 Australian Group 1 winners so far this Spring and a third of the $1 million-plus yearlings sold in Australia this year!

With three-quarters of Castelvecchio’s first crop now on the ground and attracting rave reviews, there’s a great opportunity for the late-foaling mare to join his stellar 2021 book.
