One to Watch – Newcastle

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday October 12

This So You Think gelding was an eye-catcher in the mounting yard at Newcastle on Tuesday and ran up to his imposing looks to record a soft victory as a hot favourite.

Pascal wins at Newcastle - image Newcastle Jockey Club

Prepared by Team Hawkes, four year-old Pascal has been given plenty of time to mature and was third when making his debut at Canterbury back in May.

Spelled after that, he was an impressive winner at the Rosehill trials last month and took that form to race day.

Pascal sat outside the leader for Koby Jennings and found himself in front a long way from home, but despite racing a little greenly at the finish scored an easy length and a half win in the 1250m maiden.

A $200,

000 NZB Book1 purchase for Grant Morgan’s Ontrack Thoroughbreds from the Beaufort Downs draft, Pascal was a successful pinhook having been bought for $54,000 at Karaka May as a wealing.

Pascal is the second winner from Saint Angers, a half-sister by Redoute’s Choice to stakes-winners Recast and Gonski from the family of Group II winner Schubert.

So You Think is having another great season running third on the Australian General Sires List and leading the Breednet Distance Sire Tables for 1600 – 2000m and 2000m and beyond.
