Yulong Investments and the BBA (IRE) were front and centre on the opening day of Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale with the top-price filly of the session, a daughter of Galileo (IRE).
It took a final bid of 320,000gns to secure the Manister House Stud consigned filly, a price bettered only by the 370,0000gns outlaid by Dwayne Woods for Rathbarry Stud’s Night Of Thunder (IRE) colt whose Shadwell owned sister kindly obliged by breaking her maiden at Nottingham recently.
Yulong’s Galileo filly is out of the Hellvelyn mare Mrs Danvers, whose five-start unbeaten sequence at two culminated in the Group III Cornwallis Stakes and Listed St Hugh’s Stakes and the valuable Weatherby’s Super Sprint at Newbury.
"She is an exemplary filly for her age. She is a good mix of her dam and her sire; she has great quality, looks sharp and Mrs Danvers has put a lot of strength into her. We brought her here to stand out,” Manister House Stud’s Luke Barry said.
Annabel Neasham will train the 250,000gns Lope De Vega - Kambura colt purchased by former racing journalist Noel Wilson.
Consigned Ballyhimikin Stud, the colt is a brother to three-time winner Otambura out of the French stakes-winning two-year-old Kambura (Literato).
"I live in Kent, but I would never have a horse in training in England,” Wilson told The Owner Breeder’s Nancy Sexton.
“It is just a joke. I have had horses in Australia come tenth and pick up £1,500. It is not a deciding factor, but it is indicative of what is going on. If you look at Australia, I have seen 90-rated horses placed in Group 1s.
"I am not really rich enough to support British racing." (ouch!).
After signing for a 135,000gns Camelot colt out of the stakes-winning Wooton Bassett mare Do Re Mi Fa Sol from Book 1, Brad Spicer and agent Alex Elliot were back in action signing for a 160,000gns Almanzor colt.
Consigned by Kilminfoyle House Stud, the colt is a half-brother to stakes-winner Laldaan out of the stakes-placed Azamour mare Loredana from the family of Linamix.
Price Kent Racing and Dermot Farrington have sourced some nice fillies at Tattersalls, and they picked up a daughter of Teofilo for 75,000gns on the opening day of Book 2.
Consigned by Loughtown Stud, the filly is a half-sister to four winners led by the stakes-placegetters Feyzabad and Fariman.
Their Group 1-placed dam Fraloga (Grand Lodge) is a half-sister to Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud winner Fragrant Rose, Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet winner Alpine Rose, Group III winner Farfala, and stakes-winner Fascinating Mix, who are all by Linamix.
