Our Breed to Race stories are striking a real chord with our audience and this tale of a bargain priced well bred mare bought through Inglis Digital from one of the best breeders in the country in Rick Jamieson of Gilgai Farm will inspire many more to chase their dreams.
At Grafton on Monday, six year-old All Too Hard mare Noteably broke her maiden over 1100m at odds of 10-1 and while the win might not be newsworthy to the wider world, to her owner Aasish Kapadia it was the stuff of dreams!
Aasish Kapadia tells his story - I am a small time hobby breeder that lives in Brisbane city and breeds from one mare, an old Listed winning Redoute’s Choice mare.
I was looking to buy a young mare this year and ended up buying Noteably (All Too Hard x Mirjulisa Lass) on Inglis Digital for only $3,750 in March 2021 as broodmare potential. She was well bred by All Too Hard out of Group I winning mare, Mirjulisa Lass.
She was sold as a tried horse from Gilgai Farm/Rick Jamieson and had suffered an injury to her knee as 2yo. She was trained by Robbie Griffiths in VIC and then by Adam Trinder in TAS, but neither had any luck with her.
After I purchased her as a broodmare, I decided to give her one more chance, because Kelly Scillercorn of Gilgai Farm had said she can still race on.
Our vet Simon Robinson suggested that the mare needs a lot of swimming and walking because of her knee issues and needed to be managed well and differently.
I sent her to a small hard working battling small time trainer Andrew Pilling in Ballina, NSW. I met him on Christmas Day 2019 at Ballina, he was the only guy there walking his horse.
He was struggling not having any horses to train, but is known for regularly swimming his horses in the ocean waters and getting them fit for racing via unconventional methods including long walks on long reins.
The mare has not only rejuvenated herself, but also him and put a spring into his step.
Finally today after five runs for us she broke the maiden tag as a 6yo mare and has forever earned her ticket to be a broodmare for me!”
The dam of Noteably, Mirjulisa Lass is still with Gilgai Farm and the Group I ATC Vinery Stud Stakes winner has a yearling filly by Russian Revolution and has foaled this spring producing a filly Brutal, so there is the promise of more to come in the pipeline.
