Juvenile Trial Watch – Cranbourne

There were two heats for two year-olds run at Cranbourne on Monday morning over 800m and the winners were by Frankel and Flying Artie, while both second place-getters were million dollar colts by Zoustar.

Trained by Peter Moody, Frankel colt Rampant Lion did everything right and had the benefit of the rail to score a three-quarter length win in his heat over his stablemate Millane, a Zoustar colt from Fireworks that was bought for $1,150,000 from the Segenhoe draft at Inglis Easter.

They clocked 46.96 seconds.

Bred by Rosemont Stud, Rampant Lion was passed in at Magic Millions shy of his $500,000 reserve and runs for a syndicate that includes his breeders.

Rampant Lion is from imported Street Cry mare Furnival (USA), who was bred by Darley and has an Australian pedigree being an unraced half-sister to stakes-winner Varda and to the dam of Group I winner Kementari and stakes-winner Telperion.

Running slightly quicker time of 46.16 seconds in the next heat was The Wizard King, who is trained by Shawn Mathrick.

He led and was pushed put to beat another Peter Moody trained Zoustar colt in Brereton by a long neck.

 

The Wizard King was a bargain $30,000 purchase from Inglis Melbourne Gold Yearling Sale.

The winner was a $30,000 Inglis Melbourne Gold Yearling Sale purchase for his trainer from the Diamond Park Breeding and Racing draft and is a half-brother to stakes-winner Jackofall being from winning Rory’s Jester mare Wizard Princess, a half-sister to Group I winner Cheeky Choice.

The runner-up Brereton was a $1million Magic Millions purchase from the Widden Stud draft for Victorian Alliance/Suman Hedge B'Stock (FBAA)/David Redvers Bloodstock and is from Group III winner Fuddle Dee Duddle.

The Sha Tin meeting on Sunday produced some great  results for the Yarraman sires with Brave Smash (Jpn) posting a winning double and Hellbent siring a promising new three year-old winner.
