Stud's champion sire More Than Ready (USA) is seldom without a good horse and
posted an impressive debut winner at Warwick Farm on Wednesday when Star of Africasurged clear to win in the China Horse Club colours.
Tuned up with a couple of good recent barrier trials, the Peter and Paul
Snowden trained colt was never closer than three deep in the run, but surged to
the lead on turning for home and cruised to the line for Hugh Bowman to win the
1100 metre maiden by three-quarters of a length.
A $300,000 Magic Millions purchase for China Horse Club/ WinStar Farm from the
Kia Ora Stud draft, Star of Africa runs for a big syndicate of breeders that
also includes Aquis Farm, Newgate Farm, Matthew Sandblom's Horse Ventures and
his breeders Kia Ora.
He is the first winner from stakes-placed Fastnet Rock mare Rock of Fortune, a
three-quarter sister to stakes-winner Chic Choice from the family of Group I
stars Fairy King Prawn, Easy Rocking and more recently Cosmic Endeavour.
Rock of Fortune has a yearling colt by All Too Hard and has already foaled this
spring producing a filly by the same sire.
