Is This The Victoria Derby Winner?

Mark Smith - Saturday September 4

The three-year-old Savabeel colt Forgot You looks a stakes-winner in waiting after he shed his maiden status in the PFD Food Services Hcp (1500m) at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Ridden by Daniel Moor for Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, Forgot You travelled midfield in a hot pace that had the field spread out over 12-lengths.

When Moor made his move at the 600m, Forgot You looked to be struggling as he was outsprinted by Sunfall.

Once balanced up Forgot You set out after the Pride Of Dubai gelding  Sandy Prince.

One of three runners for the stable, the son of Savabeel hit the line strongly to defeat Sandy Prince by three-quarters of a length with the Zoustar gelding Sunstar two and three-quarter lengths back in third.

It was the fifth start for Forgot You who was coming off a third behind Sunfall over 1410m at Flemington.

uo;I was surprised that the pace was so hot early. All our three horses were out the backdoor a bit, but he showed amazing acceleration,” Young said.

‘We have him nomed for the Derbies and Guineas, where we go from here we will have to weigh up. He could go to the derby Trial or bring him back and go to the Guineas Prelude.

“We will see what Daniel thinks, but he got the job done today and he is a nice horse going forward.

Forgot You was purchased by Busuttin Racing for $330,000 from the Ohukia Lodge draft at the 2020 Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale after being withdrawn from the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and the NZB Karaka Yearling Sale.

Bred by Waikato Stud’s Garry Chittick, Forgoy You comes from one of Waikato Stud’s most revered families.

He is the second foal and second winner out of the winning O’Reilly mare Simply You a three-quarter sister to stakes-winners Escadaire, Bonny O’Reilly and Group II winner Rare Insight, dam of Group 1 Coolmore Classic winner Steps In Time.

Forgot You a $330,000 Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale purchase

Simply You is a daughter of Group 1 winner Glamour Puss a half-sister to Group 1 Doncaster hcp and Group 1 George Ryder stakes winner Vision and Power.

Simply You has had a tough time of it of late. She missed in 2019 and her filly foal by Savabeel died.

The daughter of O’Reilly was covered by Super Seth last spring.
