Shamrocker's Daughter Julia Barows Keeps Unbeaten Record Intact

Mark Smith - Sunday August 22

Julia Barows (JPN), the penultimate foal of Australian Derby and Australian Guineas heroine Shamrocker, kept her record at a perfect two for two with a determined win over 1800m at Niigata on Saturday.

Ridden by Yoshitomi Shibata for trainer Noriyuki Hori, Julia Barows took control of the race around the home turn. The daughter of Deep Impact was brave down the long straight, holding the challenge of the on-rushing Victoire Pisa filly Tosen Melanie by a neck with a further length and a half back to the Epiphaneia filly Orange Fizz in third.

Julia Barows won on debut over 1800m at Tokyo in April. She is a sister to the talented Satono Gloire, who won three and was runner-up three times in an 11-start career to date.

A 4yo half-brother to Julia Barows named Satono Shalom (Lord Kanaloa) has won two and placed in five of his ten starts to date.

The final foal of Shamrocker is a 2yo Duramente filly named Trifolium who failed to flatter in a 2yo Newcomers race over 2000m at Niigata on August 8.

Shamrocker died in October last year. Trained by Danny O’Brien, the daughter of O’Reilly banked almost $2million. Besides her Group 1 double, she won the Group II VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes and was runner-up in both the Victoria oaks and AJC Australian Oaks.
