Randwick Win for Adelaide Stayer

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 21

The $130,000  Benchmark 78 staying event at Randwick on Saturday over 2400m was won in cavalier style by progressive stayer Torrens, a son of Cox Plate winner Adelaide (IRE).

The Lauri Parker trained stallion was rock hard fit coming off a seven day back up having run over 2000m at the metropolitan meeting at Kembla last Saturday and he gave Ellen Hennessy the easiest of rides.

He travelled smoothly in the run from barrier one and relished the step out in distance to power clear and win by nearly four lengths.

“He travelled nicely and quietly in behind them and when I pressed go he extended at the right time,” said Elle Hennessy.

Torrens was retained to race by his breeder and has won six races and placed three times from 21 starts earning over $226,000 in prizemoney.

Torrens is the best of three winners from winning dangerous mare A Little Knowledge, who comes from the family of Group I winner Select Prince.

Torrens has been a good money earner for his sire Adelaide, who is best known as the sire of Group I winning mare Funstar, who sold as a broodmare prospect this year for $2.7 million.

Adelaide (IRE) is a Premium stallion, click for more information.

By legendary sire Galileo, Adelaide is a value option on the Coolmore roster priced at just $5,500 this spring.
