Nechita Produces UK Stakes-Winner

Tara Madgwick - Thursday August 19

Group I winning Fastnet Rock mare Nechita topped the 2013 Magic Millions Broodmare Sale when selling for $1.55 million to Coolmore and she produced her first stakes-winner overnight when four year-old mare Forbearance captured the Listed Galtres Stakes (1m4f).

Trained by Jessica Harrington for Newtown Anner Stud, Forbearance has made good progress this year after breaking her maiden at Dundalk in February.

Third at her previous start in a Group III race at Leopardstown, Forbearance lifted her game for this assignment scoring a determined nose win under Hollie Doyle.

“She was very brave. There were numerous occasions I thought I was going to get defeated but she stuck her neck out,” said Hollie Doyle.

Forbearance has the overall record of three wins from seven starts and becomes 341st stakes-winner for the late Galileo.

She is one of two winners for Nechita, whose other winner is Sydney based stayer Harpo Marx (IRE), who has done a great job for Bjorn Baker winning over $300,000 in prizemoney with six wins up to 2500m.

Forbearance is the fourth stakes-winner by Galileo bred from a daughter of Fastnet Rock, the nick running at 22% stakes-winners to runners, that figure mirroring the success of the nick the other way around which has produced 23 stakes-winners.

Nechita has a three year-old filly called On Tiptoes that has started twice for Donnacha O’Brien, but is yet to place and a two year-old filly called Awesome Wonder with all of her offspring to date sired by Galileo.

Awesome Wonder was bought by Brian Grassick Bloodstock for 140,000 pounds at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale last year and runs in the Champion Thoroughbreds colours for Jason Abrahams, who bred Nechita and sold her as a yearling.

The filly made her debut at Naas on August 2 finishing fifth of 14 for Joseph O’Brien and is entered to race again next week.
