Spring is in the Air – Warwick Farm Trials

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday August 17

There were barrier trials galore at Warwick Farm on Tuesday morning with Everest contenders Eduardo and Gytrash unleashed for a stretch of their legs, while the 2020 Magic Millions sale-topper Profondo continues to make progress.

The Joe Pride trained Eduardo (Host (Chi) showed his customary dash to hold the fence and share the lead and duly won the 805m heat well held together with Gytrash (Lope de Vega (IRE) steaming home for third.

The Richard Litt trained Profondo was having his second trial this preparation and was asked to do more this time by Robbie Dolan.

Stepping up to 1175m, the son of Deep Impact was restrained in the early stages after jumping from the outside gate and was inclined to get his head up and over-race. When he was allowed to lengthen stride over the final furlongs, he quickly warmed to the task and surged clear under a hold to win by nearly two lengths.

A $1.9million Magic Millions purchase from the Arrowfield draft, Profundo carries the Castelvecchio colours of Ottavio Galletta and is the first  foal from Group III winning Redoute’s Choice mare Honesty Prevails.

Profondo topped the 2020 Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
