One of the most popular horses in the Bjorn Baker stable, dashing grey Your song gelding Frosty Rocks has earned himself a crack at black type races after scoring a stylish victory in the $130,000 Spring Preview (1400m) at Kembla on Saturday.
The five year-old carried 60kg when resuming from a spell to win at Rosehill in Benchmark 88 company last month and made a smooth transition to open company when racing on the pace to win again in this tougher assignment.
"It's great to see him do that. He's been a super horse for the stable and he's stepped into open grade and performed well, so we'll look for a stakes race now," Bjorn Baker said.
"We just have to have a bit of a think about it and see where we go to but he's a social media darling and he'll be another pin-up boy today."
Winning rider Josh Parr is also a fan of Frosty Rocks and believes he has what it takes to handle better class races.
"He's definitely a more mature horse and the patience shown by the stable to get him to this point, they're reaping the rewards now.
"He's ready to take the next step."
Purchased by Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA)/Bjorn Baker Racing for $140,000 out of the Edinglassie Stud draft at the 2018 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Frosty Rocks has six wins and eight placings from 21 starts and has won over $487,000 in prizemoney.
He is the best of four winners from five to race out of the winning Galileo mare Virtual Velocity whose granddam Winning Hawk is a three-quarter-sister to Tommy Smith’s champion grey filly Bounding Away, the Horse Of The Year in 1985-86.
Virtual Velocity was retired in April 2020 and her last two foals are both by Your Song, a three year-old gelding called Lyrical Lover and a two year-old filly called Gatchan.
A Group I winning son of Fastnet Rock, Your Song stands at Widden stud NSW this spring at a fee of $8,800.
