$300,000 I Am Invincible Filly Tops Inglis Digital August Early Sale

Media Release - Wednesday August 11

Race fillies have dominated the Inglis Digital August (Early) Online Sale, with the Shadwell-bred Sulwaan (I Am Invincible) topping the sale at $300,000.

Sulwaan sold for $300,000.

A 3YO unraced half sister to G2-winning filly Wawail (Lonhro) out of high-class mare El Daana (Redoute’s Choice), Sulwaan was purchased by ML Stables and will be trained by Anthony Mountney at Kembla Grange.

“Her trial form was really good and I had a few people who I respect greatly, tell me she would be a fabulous get for the stable,” ML Stables’ Tory Lavalle said.

“So we had a go and we got her, albeit I had to pay a fair bit more than I was intending to.

“She’ll go straight into work now, I think she arrives at the stables on Tuesday and she might have a week or so to get used to the new surroundings, but then it’s straight into the process and we get her ready to race.

“She obviously had a setback but that has been fully disclosed and everything points to her having fully recovered and ready to be a star on the track.

“With a mare like her, she’s so well bred so we get that extra shot with her not only as a racing prospect but in the breeding barn as well, so it’s very exciting.

“I buy off Inglis Digital all the time, it’s so easy, once you get all the information which is there for every horse and you go through it, you don’t need to travel, you can just play from your couch which is great.”

Sulwaan was part of a trio of Shadwell 3YO fillies that were offered by Lindsay Park Racing as agent for the late HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s dispersal of bloodstock.

The others were Ghazaaly (Hinchinbrook) purchased by Arrowfield Stud for $75,000 and Bakreya (Muhaara) bought for $27,500 by Kacy Fogden Racing.

“Sulwaan is one of the many beautifully-bred Shadwell fillies,” co-trainer Ben Hayes said.

“She won a trial at Flemington and beat the eventual Blue Diamond winner Artorius, so she definitely isn’t lacking on ability.

“We really wanted to keep training her, the underbidder was a client of Lindsay Park so we were very hopeful but I can assure Tory and Anthony (Mountney) that they’ve secured themselves an absolutely gorgeous filly who they’ll have a heck of a lot of fun with.

“We didn’t think twice about using Inglis Digital, it’s a such a good platform, we’re regular users because it’s so easy and efficient and I think this filly certainly made her right money.”

It was a 100% strike rate for Lindsay Park, with six from six lots sold, including the 5% share in evergreen galloper So Si Bon.

The top six lots in the sale were offered in the race filly category, as the desire for top class fillies and mares showing no signs of waning.

Randwick winner Tastebud (Hinchinbrook), a 4YO mare offered by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing was bought by Ben Kwok (HK) for $115,000.

“We will head to the breeding barn with Tastebud, I’ll make a decision on a stallion in the coming weeks,” Kwok said.

“She’s a lovely type of filly with a good pedigree which will be easy to match with a stallion and being a city winner was a definite plus for me, they are hard to come by, especially at a reasonable price.

“The market is very hot at the moment and very competitive with a filly like her.

“We will look for a nice stallion so she can produce a neat and tidy first foal.

“I love the Inglis Digital website and have been using the platform for a few years now, it’s doing a very good job particularly for overseas buyers like me.

“All the information I need is available, from comprehensive photos, videos, descriptions, breeding certificates and reports, it all enables me to bid with confidence, especially given I cannot see the mare myself or my agent due to restrictions.’’

Other results included I Am Verve (I Am Invincible) and G2-performed Dundeel mare The Closer, both purchased for $95,000 by Ravenswood Bloodstock and Arrowfield Stud respectively, while Devils Triangle (More Than Ready) was bought by Speriamo Bloodstock/Blandford Bloodstock for $85,000.

The August (Early) catalogue grossed $2,645,400 and posted a clearance rate of 81%.
