New season two-year-olds on show

Tom Baddock - Monday September 18

The public has had their first look of this season's most precocious two-year-olds as 12 trials for the juveniles were conducted at Canterbury on Monday.

Landon (I Am Invincible/Prairie Star) kicked off the two-yearold trials in  impressive fashion for Tulloch Lodge.

Below are the highlight performers from the morning session.

LANDON (I Am Invincible / Prairie Star )
Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott
Showed good speed from the outside barrier to cross and lead. Travelled strongly throughout and gave a good kick for Josh Parr to close out the trial comfortably. Looks well-educated and a natural runner.

QUAINTLY (Exceed And Excel / Status Quo)
James Cummings
This Godolphin-trained filly bombed the start by ten lengths and appeared destined to finish at the tail of the field but amazingly charged home, making up many lengths in the straight to only be beaten two lengths in third. It would have been interesting had she jumped with them. An outstanding debut trial with obvious barrier manners to work on.

BONDI (Snitzel / Bondi Blonde)
Peter & Paul Snowden
Showed good speed to jump to the lead and hold the rail from the inside barrier. Travelled boldly but came back for Hugh Bowman when asked. Dropped the second horse at the turn and was untouched in the run to the line. He seemed to have plenty left in the tank and produced a solid time for the day.

SATIN SLIPPER (Pierro / Satin Shoes)
Peter & Paul Snowden
Jumped evenly and settled in behind the leaders one out, one back. Travelled comfortably throughout and when niggled to improve into the straight by Kerrin McEvoy showed a good turn of foot to put the trial to bed quickly.

HIEMAL (Exceed And Excel / Arctic Drift)
James Cummings
This son of Exceed and Excel showed natural speed out of the barriers to land in a forward position. Kerrin McEvoy trailed the leader in second before shaking up the colt for a good test to the line. A lot to like about the way he picked up under pressure when asked to chase down the leader.

INVINCIBLE LAD (I Am Invincible / Magdalena Peter)
Peter & Paul Snowden
Was hunted out of the outside gate and showed good speed to cross to the rail and lead. Travelled sweetly and wasn't knocked around in the straight to only be passed late by Hiemal, which was asked for more of an effort.

WITHERSPOON ( Exceed And Excel / Girl Hussler)
Brad Widdup
Jumped with them and showed speed to settle second, a length behind the leader. Christian Reith let slip some more rein into the straight and the daughter of Exceed And Excel let down strongly. She was given a crack with the whip at the 100m and responded well, kicking strongly. Witherspoon was hard on the bridle in the finish to record the fastest time of the morning.

GREYT LOVE ( Denman / Greytfilly)
Bjorn Baker
Jumped with them but was eased back from the wide draw to settle second last on the rail. Was momentarily held up before gaining a run along the rail rounding the bend. Closed strongly under light hands and heels riding to finish second behind Witherspoon in the fastest heat of the day.
