New G1 Winner for Power

Tara Madgwick - Sunday July 11

Standing at Oaklands Stud in Queensland this spring, Power (GB) sired a new Group I winner in France overnight with three year-old colt Laws of Indices taking out the Group I Prix Jean Prat (1400m) at Deauville.

Trained by Ken Condon and ridden by Olivier Peslier, Laws of Indices turned in a career best performance to lead and defy all challengers to win by a head over Zoffany colt Thunder Moon, who was a Group I winner in Ireland last year at two.

“I think seven is his trip and the Prix de la Foret at the end of the year would be a nice target for him, while a horse with his kind of profile and his blend of pace they often run well in a Breeders' Cup Mile. But I think in Europe seven is perfect for Laws of Indices,” said Ken Condon.

A modest 8,000 euro purchase for bloodstock agent Dermot Farrington from the Goffs Autumn Yearling Sale, Laws of Indices has the overall record of three wins from 10 starts with this  victory his second in a Black Type event.

Laws of Indices is the best of four winners from winning Exceed and Excel mare Sampers, a grand-daughter of Group II winner Privity.

He is the second Group I winner for Power, a Group I wining son of Oasis Dream that stands at Oaklands Stud at a fee of $13,200.

Laws of Indices is also the tenth Group I winner from a daughter of champion sire Exceed and Excel, whose mares are making a huge impression at stud leaving a total of 53 stakes-winners to date.

Power stands at Oaklands Stud at a fee of $13,200.
