UK Winner for Melito

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday June 23

There have been a string of high profile Australian bred mares producing winners in the UK and Ireland in recent weeks including Mossfun, Amicus, Nechita and Zouzou with Melito adding her name to the list with an overnight winner at Salisbury.

Trained by Roger Charlton, three year-old Galileo gelding Pleasant Man scored a neck win over 1m4f taking his overall record to two wins and a third from five starts, his previous win a debut victory last September at Haydock.

Pleasant Man has contested two Group races among his five starts so is obviously held in good regard and now that he’s been gelded may well make further progress when tried again in Black Type company.

A half-brother to Group II placed Campbell Junior, Pleasant Man was bred by Northern Farm and runs for Brook Farm Bloodstock.

He is one of three winners for dual Group I winning Redoute’s Choice mare Melito, who was sent to the Northern Hemisphere back in 2012 after she was bought for a sale-topping $1.65million by Tom Magnier at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Melito topped the 2012 MM National Broodmare Sale.

Melito was offered again at the 2017 Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale where she made 950,000 euros to the bid of Katsumi Yoshida when she was in foal to Galileo with Pleasant Man the result of that mating.

Melito produced a filly last year by Mikki Isle.

One of Melito’s Irish bred daughters by Galileo has found her way to Australia and Roudha (IRE), bought as a Tattersalls October yearling for 500,000 guineas by Emirates Park, is being given every chance to succeed.

Roudha has produced a yearling filly and weanling colt by I Am Invincible for Emirates Park and is now in foal to Too Darn Hot (GB).
