First Season Sires - Trial Winners To Come

Breednet - Monday June 14

The top 10 first season sires (by earnings) this season have produced 13 individual stakes winners so far, equalled only once in the last 10 seasons – 2018 – so we thought we’d check the trial results for what might be waiting in the wings for what’s looking an exceptional bunch.

We’ve only looked at official barrier trial winners here and there’s over 40 horses yet to race which are by first season sires and there is undoubtedly some promising efforts among from youngsters in strong stables.

Here’s some of what we think are the better ones:

Tattooist (American Pharoah x Aspen Falls) – $500,000 Inglis Easter colt in the Waterhouse/Bott yard. He won a Gosford trial (800m) on Feb 17 – watch it here. And then won another at the same track over 1000m on March 1 by three lengths – watch it here.
