A Spectacular First for Jimmy Creed

Mark Smith - Sunday June 6

Jimmy Creed (USA), a five-season shuttler to Spendthrift Australia, was represented by his first Grade 1 winner following a breathtaking performance by Casa Creed in the $400,000 Jaipur Stakes (6f) on the turf at Belmont.

Still seeing the backsides of seven of his eight opponents with little over a furlough to run, Casa Creed came with a barnstorming finish under Junior Alvarado to defeat his Bill Mott-trained stablemate Chewing Gum (Candy Ride) by two lengths with Bound For Nowhere (The Factor) a further three-quarter of a length back in third.

The Jaipur Stakes is a “Win and You're In” qualifier to Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint.

The 5yo son of Jimmy Creed (USA) advances his record to five wins, three seconds and three thirds from 20 starts with earnings of US$755,408.

Alvarado said it was a fitting reward for a horse that always gives his best.

“He's versatile. He's been unlucky with races, but he's always been hard knocking,” Alvarado said.

“He gets beat, but gets beat trying against really nice horses. We started figuring it out these past couple of races. He showed today that he's a serious sprinter.”

Bred in Kentucky by Silver Springs Stud. Casa Creed was a $15,000 yearling purchase by Amalio Ruiz-Lozano at the OBS Winter Mixed Sale and was then sold to LRE at Keeneland September for $105,000.

He is the second stakes-winner out of the Bellamy Road mare Achalaya following the Grade III Kitten’s Joy Stakes winner Chess’s Dream (Jess’s Dream).

Grade 1 Malibu Stakes winner Jimmy Creed shuttled to Spendthrift Australia from 2015-19. He was behind the eight-ball from the start with just 16 live foals in his first crop.

The son of Distorted Humor (USA) resides at Spendthrift Kentucky where his 2021 service fee was US$10,000.
