Flying Finish for Latest Artie Winner

Newgate young gun Flying Artie has enjoyed a memorable first season with his debut crop of two year old runners and produced an eye-catching winner at Goulburn on Friday when Flying Tyrol zoomed home from a clear last to finish first!

A homebred for Wilf Mula’s Aston Bloodstock, who co-owned and raced her sire Flying Artie, the John Thompson trained Flying Tyrol looked to be out of play turning for home.

A big filly, she showed no gate speed from barrier one and settled at the tail of the field for Keagan Latham, but when angled into clear ground after straightening for home went through her gears in impressive fashion.

Still very green over the concluding stages, Flying Tyrol scored a nose win in the 1000m juvenile maiden, but will take huge benefit from the experience.



Flying Tyrol is the third winner form stakes-winning Catbird mare Burgeis and is sadly her final foal as she died in 2018.

Flying Tyrol is the eighth winner for Flying Artie, whose best offspring to date is Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Artorius.

The Champion 3YO Sprinting Colt of his generation, Flying Artie has already exceeded expectations with his first crop and undoubtedly the best is ahead as his progeny move into their classic season.

He is priced this spring at $33,000.
