Peltzer Retired to Twin Hills Stud

Media Release - Monday May 24

An unbeaten two year old and Group II winning three year old by So You Think, Peltzer has been retired to Twin Hills Stud for the 2021 breeding season and will stand at a fee of $16,500 inc GST.

Peltzer was the winner of all three of his races as a juvenile and is the highest rated two year old ever produced by his sire, So You Think.

His feature wins came as a three year old, in the Group II Stan Fox Stakes, the Group II Eskimo Prince Stakes and in the inaugural running of the million dollar Bondi Stakes over the famed Randwick mile.

“He had immense talent,” Peltzer’s trainer, Gerald Ryan, said.

“I’ve only had four horses break 30s from the 1500m to the 1000m where I clock them from. The first was Snitzel, then Snitzerland, next was Rubick and this colt, Peltzer. It’s why I will always have a huge opinion of this horse.’’

On debut as a two year old, Peltzer accounted for the subsequent Group winner Anders over 1000 metres. His next two runs as a two year old were both at Randwick, resulting in easy wins (by two-lengths and four-lengths). Peltzer finished the season as an unbeaten three time winner, with the highest Timeform rating of any juvenile by his outstanding sire.

His three wins as a three year old also came in succession.

A win in the Group II Eskimo Prince Stakes over 1500m at Randwick preceded a three-length victory in the Bondi Stakes, a million dollar race over the Randwick mile. Following a spell, Peltzer defeated both Prague and North Pacific in the Group III  Stan Fox Stakes over 1200 metres. He retires having won 6 of his 13 starts and having amassed over $1 million in prizemoney.

“He was a fast So You Think,” added Gerald Ryan. “A gorgeous looking colt with a great attitude.”

Peltzer is by the imperious So You Think, one of Australia’s greatest ever racehorses and emerging as one of Australia’s great stallions. A grandson of High Chapparal, Peltzer is from the sire line that is emerging as a powerhouse of Australasian breeding – the line of Toronado, Dundeel, Contributer. His dam is by Elusive Quality, who is also the broodmare sire of Deep Field. He descends from the Aga Khan family of French Champion Shawanda.

Peltzer was an eye-catching yearling.

Peltzer was the highest priced colt by So You Think in his crop, selling for $260,000 at Magic Millions Gold Coast in 2019.

“Peltzer is a glorious looking horse,” said Olly Tait, the owner of Twin Hills Stud. “He has quality, strength and scope. Just lovely.

“He was a top sprinter, with the class to get a mile. Furthermore, he was unbeaten in three starts as a two year old. So, he’s by a great stallion but came to hand earlier and was faster than his pedigree suggested. A bit like Zabeel or Toronado. It’s an excellent sign in a stallion prospect.

“We’re thrilled to have him bought into him and having him standing at Twin Hills. It’s hard to get your hands on a horse with these credentials."
