LIAPARI

Going well so it's no surprise he's right in the market but this race doesn't profile well. Drawn the outside gate in a race devoid of pace and pressure so expecting him to have to drift well back. Up in class and back in distance which makes it tough. Don't doubt he'll work home solidly but with some classy types enjoying an easy run closer to the pace – we can't see him mowing them down this week.

GALAXY RAIDER

$4.40

Favourite in the get out stakes but he's a horse that can find plenty of ways to get beaten and this looks a race with plenty of chances. Eligible for much weaker races than this and for that reason alone we're happy to take him on. Likely to get back in a big field so will need everything to go his way racing out of his class.

SNITZ

$4.80

Is currently favourite but looks to face a stiff task first-up. Has topweight and drawn wide for a start and his plain barrier trial on July 18 at Ballina hardly inspires confidence. Yet to miss a place from his three starts but this looks a tough assignment.

GENERAL CUSTER

$4.40

Hard to tip against a horse that has won three of his last four starts but there do look some sound reasons to do so. He's tackling the distance for the first time and was all out to score over 2250m here last start. This is a big field and from the draw he could use up some petrol going forward, conversely find traffic if he goes back. Understandably favourite but he looks a good risk to us.

FIRST AMONG EQUALS

$2.45

Clearly the best horse in the race - the weight tells you that. Arguably got bogged down under 61kg last start and has to carry the same again and concede at least 4.5kg all round. At level weights he would win easily but it's not. Weight stops trains so prepared to risk him at these odds with some slick sprinters in the field.
