Another Millionaire Earner for Nicconi

Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 1

Winner of the Group III BRC Fred Best Classic at three, talented seven year-old Nicconi gelding Niccanova has recaptured his best form and scored a resounding win in the Group II BRC Victory Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday taking his prizemoney beyond $1million.

The Steve Tregea trained Niccanova was resuming from a spell after finish second in his last two starts back in December and January.

He travelled back in the field for James Orman and surged past his rivals up the fence to win by three-quarters of a length.

“He’s had a trouble free prep, although I thought he might have been a bit big,” said Steve Tregea, who will now look towards the Group I BRC Stradbroke for Niccanova, who finished third in the race last year.

Bred and retained to race by Windemere Stud, Niccanova has the impressive record of 10 wins and 13 placings from 38 starts with prizemoney topping $1million.

Niccanova is the best of three winners from unraced Snippetson mare Dananova (now deceased), who comes from the family of juvenile stakes-winner Ploverset and New Zealand Group I winner Southern Lord.

Nicconi stands at Widden Stud Victoria this year.

Niccanova is another top class sprinter by Widden Stud’s quiet achiever Nicconi, who has moved to Widden Stud Victoria this spring and stands at a fee of $27,500.
