Winter Challenge analysis

Clinton Payne - Friday July 28

The Racenet Speedmaps and form analysts have combined to give punters a leg-up in the $150,000 Listed Winter Challenge (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Racenet's speedmap for the Winter Challenge.

Racenet's Speedmaps spokesman Greg Polson said the lack of speed on paper could throw up tactic chances, making this a tricky race to assess.

"The only thing certain on the map this week is Classic Uniform is likely to lead," Polson said.

"The runners I have map queries on are Centre Pivot, Elle Lou, Liapari and Sultan Of Swing. Their normal pattern is to go back but they have all gone forward at different times in the past.

"It wouldn't shock if one or more of them go forward here.

"Regardless of the early events, the horses that get the best runs are Classic Uniform, Shiraz, Gold Symphony, Snippets Land and Extensible, provided she gets cover."

Corporate bookie Ladbrokes is offering $4.80 for the favourites Gold Symphony and Liapari, $7.50 Classic Uniform, $8.50 Sultan Of Swing, $9 Shiraz, $9.50 Snippets Land, $12 Slightly Sweet and Extensible with the other runners at $15 or better.

"This is a tough contest and most have winning prospects," Racenet form analyst Cameron Happ said.

"The best value in the race is the two mares Slightly Sweet and Elle Lou.

"The map isn't ideal for them but they are over the odds at $12 and $15.

"Using the Ladbrokes Odds Boost you can lock in $15 for Slightly Sweet or $18 for Elle Lou. In a tough race something small on them is our preferred staking option."
