Cascadian Relation Has Guineas Goal

Tara Madgwick - Thursday April 15

The Godolphin team unleashed a serious contender for the Group I Newmarket 2,000 Guineas overnight in the UK and he’s a close relation to last Saturday’s Group I ATC Doncaster Handicap winner Cascadian (IRE)

Three year-old Dubawi colt Master of the Seas was sent out favourite for the Group III Craven Stakes (1m) and scored a stylish three-quarter length win over his stablemate La Barrosa (Lope de Vega).

Trained by Charlie Appleby and ridden by William Buick, Master of the Seas took his record to three wins and a second from five starts with this victory his second Black Type success following on from a successful juvenile season when he won the Group III Superlative Stakes also at Newmarket.

“Master of the Seas is a Guineas horse. You only see the very good ones managing to quicken down into the Dip and when they hit the rising ground they go again and that's what this fellow did,” said William Buick.

“When you go back and see his runs as a two-year-old they were full of class. His run in Dubai was a bit of a mess and I'm really glad to get him back on track today.”

A homebred for Godolphin, Master of the Seas is a half-brother to Group III winner Falls of Lora, the dam of Australian Group I winner Cascadian.

He is the best of eight winners from stakes-winning Danehill mare  Firth of Lorne, four of those winners being stakes-winners.
