Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Friday April 9

The Randwick barrier trials on Friday morning featured six juvenile heat winners, five of them by first season sires that aren’t Capitalist.

Triple Crown hero American Pharoah (USA) has sired three Australian winners but there may be more in the pipeline with Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott producing two unraced  heat winners.

A homebred for Gooree Stud, Decisive Move was ridden forward by Brenton Avdulla to lead out wide and covered ground all the way but was strong to the line in winning her 740m heat by a long neck.

Decisive Move is a half-sister to two stakes-placed horses and two other winners being from Group III winner Gamble on Me.

In the same heat and having a very quiet educational first trial was Cleocatra, a Stonestreet Stables homebred by American Pharoah from dual Group I winner Miracles of Life.

Wenet had two trials last year, but is obviously a stronger filly now and was ridden along to the line by Sam Clipperton to win her heat by nearly two lengths.

Wenet is the first foal of Whitula, a placed half-sister to Group I winning filly Headway and this season’s very promising Group III placed juvenile Mazu.

Maurice (Jpn) put two winners on the board in the Peter and Snowden trained colt Saiko and the Mark Newnham trained gelding Rocstar Boy, while Flying Artie chimed in with the Chris Waller trained colt Giannis.
