2021 NZB South Island Sale Highlights

After a superb Karaka 2021 yearling sale, attention quickly shifts to New Zealand Bloodstock’s 2021 South Island Sale, hosted for the second year on online subsidiary Gavelhouse Plus.

There are 63 quality yearlings catalogued digitally, many of which have ample credentials to follow in the footsteps of their stakes-winning relatives. 

Highlighted below are several standout lots featured in the South Island Sale session:

Lot 1 is a filly by Charm Spirit our of Volksraad mare Ohakune (NZ) consigned by Windsor Park. This Lot’s dam is a three-quarter sister to Group One New Zealand Derby (2400m) winner Military Move (NZ) and a full sister to Listed Malaysian winner Carbon Copy (NZ).

Offered on account of Woburn Farm, Lot 12 as a filly by Preferment out of Cullen mare Sila Jasak (NZ). This lots granddam is Grand Archway (Archway), herself a four-time Group One winner and  Champion Three-Year-Old and Female in Australia. 

Lot 16 is a filly by Sacred Falls out of Suriyan (NZ) (Savabeel) offered on account of Clearview Park Stud in Timaru. This filly is closely related to Group Three winner Kinane (NZ) (Reliable Man), while her dam is a half-sister to Group Three-winning Magic Dancer (NZ) (Rip Van Winkle).

Lot 25 is a Tivaci colt by multiple Group-winning dam Alagant Satin (NZ) (Al Akbar) offered on account of Currahmore. Alagant Satin won the Group Two Eight Carat Classic (1600m) and the Group Three Eulogy Stakes (1600m), claiming more than $227,000 in career earnings. 

Lot    27 - Almanzor colt from Avisto.

From the Curraghmore draft, Lot 27 is a gelding by freshman sire Almanzor. This lots dam is the multiple stakes-winning daughter of Tavistock in Avisto (NZ), who claimed three Listed victories in succession over both 1200 and 1400 metres. The gelding is from the same family of Group One placed Galway Lass (NZ) (Rhythm) and Listed winner Celtic Tiger (NZ) (O’Reilly).

 

Lot 37 is a grey colt by Mongolian Falcon out of Stravinsky mare Dina (NZ) offered by Willow Glen Stud in Canterbury. He is a half-brother to Group Two placed Liberating (NZ) (Iffraaj) and is a close relation to Group One winner Saint Emilion (NZ) (Mastercraftsman).

 

Lot 41 is a colt by Almanzor out of Freequence (NZ) (O’Reilly) consigned by Woburn Farm. He is a half-brother to Group One winner I Do (NZ) (No Excuse Needed), who has claimed the $200,000 Makfi Challenge Stakes (1400m) and the Group Three Foxbridge Plate (1200m).

Lot 47 is a Vadamos filly out of Pentire mare in Kiara (NZ) offered by Rich Hill Stud. This Lot’s dam is a full-sister to Champion Sprinter in New Zealand and ten time Group One-winning (King) Mufhasa (NZ) and is also from the family of multiple Group One winner (The) Bostonian (NZ) (Jimmy Choux). 

Lot 60 is a filly by emerging sire Astern out of imported Lawnman mare Myakka Park offered by Canterbury-based Inglewood Stud. This filly comes from an international family and her dam is a half-sister to two stakes winners in Ayrad (Dalakhani) and Dawn of Hope (Mastercrafstman). She is also from the same family of Champion Three-Year-Old Sprinter in Europe and super sire Stravinsky (Nureyev).  

 

Lot 63 is a filly by Almanzor out of Next (In the Wings) consigned by Brighthill Farm. She is a half-sister to exciting three-year-old Montre Moi (NZ) (Showcasing), who recently placed third in the 2021 $1m Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m) and fourth in the Group Two Waikato Guineas (2000m). 

All unbroken yearlings offered through the 2021 South Island Sale on Gavelhouse Plus are eligible for NZB’s lucrative Karaka Million Series, featuring the $1m DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka Million 2YO (1200m) and the Karaka Million 3YO Classic (1600m), as well as the $100,000 Karaka Cup for the remainder of their careers.
