First Foals for Darley Duo Excite Australian Breeders

Media Release - Friday September 15
Record-breaking sprinter Exosphere and multiple G1 winner Kermadec joined the Darley stallion roster at Kelvinside in the Hunter Valley in 2016. Their first southern hemisphere foals are now arriving and early reports from breeders are extremely positive.

Exosphere has 21 foals on the ground and counting, including a colt out of  Shemakhan – a half-sister to Top Act, winner of the Listed HKJC Sa Sa Ladies Purse.

Jo Griffin of Lime Country Thoroughbreds said, "Shemakhan is a Mastercraftsman mare and his stock can be big, heavy and coarse. With Exosphere being such a big, strong horse himself I was a bit worried. But looking at this colt, he is all class and quality."

Baramul Stud recently welcomed a filly out of  Yalatif who is from the family of Thorn Park and Snitzel.

Other mares in foal to Exosphere include the multiple Stakes-placed mare, Absolute Faith, who was third in the G1 Australian Oaks.

Listed Gimcrack Stakes Winner  Brilliant Bisc, whose first foal sold at the 2017 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for A$1,000,000, was subsequently sold in-foal to Exosphere for $600,000 at the 2017 Turangga Farm Dispersal Sale to Sir Owen Glenn and Go Bloodstock Australia Pty Ltd. She is due to foal next month.  Montmelo,  dam of Gimcrack Stakes winner Jorda, is expected to foal down later this month.

Barramul Stud-owned mares  Wokpool , from the family of Typhoon Tracey, and  Internet, a half-sister to Delago Deluxe and from the family of Duporth, Excites and Tickets, are both in foal to Exosphere.

Kermadec 's progeny also have breeders talking with Monarch Stud welcoming a colt out of a half-sister to Complacent  in  Boredom . Kieran Falvey, owner of Monarch Stud said this colt was the "best on the farm."

Another colt by  Teofilo 's multiple G1-winning son is pictured. Out of  Gemini Miss , Glenn Burrows from Willow Park Stud described him as, "a simply striking colt of good size, substance with good bone and correct. This guy is very much his sire replicating himself and if he's the norm the odds of him becoming a successful sire have shortened."

Kermadec now has 21 foals on the ground, including a black colt out of G1 Waikato RC Herbie Dyke Stakes winner  Valley Girl  who foaled down at Wentwood Grange in New Zealand.

Mares who visited Kermadec who are yet to foal include G2 Cambridge JC Travis Stakes winner  Pimms Time , from the family of Emancipation; the G1-producing mare  Pica Pica , dam of Signify who won the G1 WRC Telegraph Handicap in 2017; and  Savabella Rose  who is a half-sister to G1 Queensland Derby winner Brambles.

Shouts , dam of G1 winner and fellow Darley stallion  Holler , and Virago , dam of Listed winner Federal, are also expected to foal down this month.

With so many positive comments from Australian breeders and plenty of foals yet to arrive this year, this talented duo have already made a promising start to their new careers at stud.
