Al Maher's Monsieur Gustave All the Way In Glasshouse

Mark Smith - Saturday July 1

The Darryl Hansen-trained Monsieur Gustave proved his win in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich a fortnight back was no fluke by claiming Saturday's Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast.

A lucky last minute ride for Adam Hyeronimus, the son of Al Maher led all the way to beat Snippets Land (Snippetson) by half a length, with Man Of His Word (Lope de Vega) a half-neck back in third.

Hansen was forced into looking for a new rider after Tiffani Brooker, who won the Eye Liner Stakes on Monsieur Gustave, was required to ride the Stuart Kendrick-trained Banda Spice.

"I had Josh Parr and Adam in mind but thought Josh might struggle to make the 55kg so we went with Adam," Hansen told AAP.

"When he was able to lead easily I knew he would be hard to beat."

Monsieur Gustave is likely to go for a spell and miss the Ramornie Handicap at Grafton next week.

"At this stage I am inclined to spell him. We aimed him at the Eye Liner and the Glasshouse and he has won both," Hansen said.

With his second stakes win, Monsieur Gustave (pictured as a yearling) advances his record to 6 wins, 2 seconds and 1 third from16 starts with earnings of $338,900.

The well-related son of Al Maher was a $34,000 purchase by McLachlan Place Racing Stables out of the Vinery Stud draft at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

His dam Saigon Moonlight (Stravinsky) is an unraced sister to Group III winner Estelle Collection the dam of the champion sprinter, Lankan Rupee (Redoute's Choice).

It is the family of Lonhro, Grosvenor, Niello, Mahaya and National Gallery.

Now owned by Armidale Stud, Saigon Moonlight has a yearling filly by Needs Further who was purchased by Kelvin Wadley for $22,000 at this year's Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale.

After not being served in 2015, Saigon Moonlight was covered by Tough Speed (USA) last spring.

Monsieur Gustave is one of 33 stakes winner for Aquis at Emirates Park's Danehill stallion Al Maher whose 2017 fee has been set at $13,200.
