Under The Louvre To Stand At Queensland’s Grandview Stud

Breednet - Thursday May 25
2016 Stradbroke Handicap winner, Under The Louvre, is about to enhance an already brilliant career by taking up stallion duties at Grandview Stud from this spring.

Under The LouvreA lightning fast sprinter who won Queensland's biggest race and was multiple Group One placed, Under The Louvre heads to Grandview, in a deal structured by Group 1 Bloodstock, at an introductory fee of just $7,700 inc. GST.

"Under the Louvre had incredible acceleration," his trainer, Robert Smerdon enthused. "He mixed it with the best and in the Stradbroke he faced nine Group One winners including Black Heart Bart.

"He (Under The Louvre) could easily have been a multiple Group One winner … I thought he was a bit stiff in the Oakleigh Plate when he flew home in 33 flat … he only missed by a lip in the Rupert Clarke … and was beaten a neck by Black Heart Bart in the Goodwood.

"I 'inherited' the horse as a three year old but he was originally picked out as a yearling by Tony Vasil who has such a great eye. Under The Louvre won his debut as a two year old by four lengths and then his Group One as a five year old … that just goes to show his longevity.

"Under The Louvre is a tremendous individual. He never 'bulked up' like a lot of entires and has a terrific nature. Great to deal with.

"If he can throw that explosive turn of foot, athleticism and temperament into into progeny I believe he's a very good stallion prospect."

Under The Louvre retires to stud with nine wins and 14 placings and over $1.8 million in prizemoney. Incredibly, from 22 starts in black type company, Under The Louvre either won or placed in 15.

Naturally enough, Grandview Stud's Michael Grieve, is thrilled with getting Under The Louvre on board where he'll stand alongside proven sire, Jet Spur, and the promising Tale of the Cat stallion, Whittington, at the 230 acre, all-service property near Ipswich.

"Under The Louvre is arguably the most exciting racehorse to enter stud in Queensland for many years," Michael points out. "Not only did he win the Stradbroke, but he also raced against and beat the best in Melbourne too. He was very adaptable.

"Under The Louvre is the best performer by Group One winner, Excellent Art, who only stood a few seasons in Australia, but he is, in turn, a son of the outstanding speed influence, Pivotal.

"Standing, at one stage, for the equivalent of A$150,000 in Europe, Pivotal produced over 130 stakes winners and that was just from being based in the one hemisphere.

"Another interesting aspect to Pivotal is that, matched up with Danehill, he is running at a massive 18% stakes performers to runners. So, being totally free of Danehill, Under The Louvre offers a rare outcross for breeders.

"Under The Louvre is a serious horse and is not only a coup for Queensland, but for all breeders. When his progeny are up for sale, buyers will well remember his performances in other states. Speed and ability has universal appeal."

Attractive packages - including lifetime breeding rights - are available to this exciting stallion prospect.
