Third Stakes Winner for Smart Missile

Mark Smith - Saturday May 20

The John Mcardle-trained filly I'll Have A Bit chose the right spot to break her maiden.

The 2yo daughter left the hot favourite Brooker without an excuse when she came from second last on the turn to win Saturday's $200,000 Group III National Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville running away.

With Craig Williams in the saddle, I'll Have A Bit stormed home to defeat Booker (Written Tycoon) by one and a quarter lengths with It's A Myth (Sepoy) three-quarter of a length back in third.

I'' Have A Bit was third behind Booker and Freeze Over in the Phar Lap Club Plate (1100m) at Flemington) back on May 6.

The daughter of Smart Missile was a $48,000 purchase by Redgum Racing out of the Basinghall Farm draft at the 2016 Inglis Vobis Gold Yearling scale.

She must have been showing promise as Redgum went to the Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling sale this year to purchase Armidale Stud's half-brother to I'll Have A Bit by Foxwedge for $40,000.

I'll Have A Bit (pictured as a yearling)  is the third foal and third winner out of the Jeune (GB) mare Take All Of Me who was a three-time winner in Melbourne.

Take all Of Me is a daughter of the hugely popular Tickle My (Perugino) whose 11 wins, included five stakes highlighted by the Group II Sunline Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Take all Of Me has a weanling filly by Toronado (IRE) and was bred back to the handsome son of High Chaparral last spring.

I'll Have A Bit becomes the third stakes winner for Arrowfield Stud's Smart Missile (Fastnet Rock) who has made the battle for leading second season sire title a three-way contest with Foxwedge and So You Think.
