Shalaa's Tidal Impact Makes a Statement on Debut

Mark Smith - Sunday March 14

There were just two races run at Coonamble on Sunday before surface water postponed the rest of the meeting, but that was enough time to witness an exciting career debut by a daughter of Shalaa (IRE).

The Damien Lane-trained Tidal Impact was sent off favourite in the well-contested Boot Prelude (1100m) off the back of impressive barrier trials at Gosford and Wyong.

Tidal Impact allayed any fears about the heavy going. Sent straight to the front by Darryl McLellan, the daughter of Shalaa (IRE) increased her margin at every call to win by nine and a half lengths.

The Press Statement filly The Storm In Me was second with Skyclad gelding Look At Yah three-quarters of a length back in third.

Tidal Impact picked up $20,725 for her walk in the park.

Consigned by Burke Bloodstock to the 2020 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale Round 2, Tidal Impact was purchased by D Law / Impact Thoroughbreds for $40,000.

Tidal Impact is the first foal of Eventide, a hard-knocking daughter of Dane Shadow, purchased by Burke Bloodstock for $80,000 out of the Willow Park draft at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale when carrying the Shalaa (IRE) filly.

The winner of seven and placed in seven of her 30 starts, Eventide is a half-sister to the stakes-placed winners Extreme Impact (Snitzel) and Wine Night (Playing God) from the family of Blur and Shrewd Rhythm.

Tidal Impact a $40,000 Easter Yearling

Eventide has a yearling filly by Shooting To Win, a weanling filly by So You Think, and was covered by Flying Artie last spring.

Tidal Impact becomes the fourth winner in Australia for Arrowfield Stud’s Shalaa (IRE).

The son of Invincible Spirit has a live chance in next weeks $3.5million Golden Slipper with yesterdays Group III ATC Stakes winner Shaquero.
