Third Win for Million Dollar Mare

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 26
Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum has been plundering the top end of the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in recent years and a filly he bought for $1,050,000 in 2014 snared her third victory at Canterbury on Wednesday.

The most expensive filly sold at Newmarket in 2014, four year-old Street Cry (IRE) mare Maraam hit top form at her third run back from a spell.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Maraam scored a short head win in the Benchmark 72 event for fillies and mares over 1200 metres.

Maraam as a yearlingShe now has the overall record of three wins and five placings from 15 starts with prizemoney nearing $140,000.

Given her pedigree and current good form, Maraam will no doubt be targeting Black Type races in coming weeks.

Maraam is a half-sister to this season's brilliant Group II winning three year-old Derryn.

She is from minor winner Munhro, a half-sister by Lonhro to Group III winner Colour from the True Blonde branch of the Easy Date family that has given us Golden Slipper winner Forensics.

A stunning individual, Maraam was sold at Inglis Easter by Segenhoe Stud, who pinhooked her for $280,000 out of the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.

Her dam Munhro was on-sold at the same sale with Randwick Bloodstock purchasing her for $385,000 on behalf of Bylong Park Thoroughbreds.

She was covered last spring by Street Cry's dual Group I winner Pride of Dubai, so will produce a three-quarter sibling to Maraam.
