May Sale Brimming with Quality Mares

The broodmare category of the 2017 New Zealand Bloodstock National Weanling, Broodmare and Mixed Bloodstock Sale is set to be the source of quality producers, breeding prospects and mares in foal to popular and proven stallions.

More than half a dozen of the broodmares due to go under the hammer in next month's Sale have impressive black-type racetrack credentials.

Lot 324 is Ulfah (Encosta De Lago), a Listed winner in Melbourne. She is in foal to Dalghar and will be offered by Dalghar's home Brighthill Farm. Also included is a free service to Dalghar for this mare in the 2017 breeding season.

Lot 347 is Brianna (NZ) (Sudurka), who won five races including the Listed Counties Bowl (1100m) and ran third in the Group 1 Railway Handicap (1200m). She is in foal to Cox Plate winner and Horse of the Year Ocean Park and will be offered by Tony Rider's Milan Park – owners and breeders of Group 1 winners Irish Fling (NZ) (Darci Brahma) and Adventador (NZ) (Fast 'N' Famous).

Lot 371 is the Zabeel mare Falsetto (NZ), who won three races including the three-year-old fillies' event that is now the Group 3 Sunline Vase (2100m) She finished third in the Group 1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m). She will be offered by Blandford Lodge, breeders of multiple Group 1 winner Lucia Valentina (NZ) (Savabeel), and she is in foal to Contributer .

Multiple stakes winner and dam of two winners, Kiri (NZ) (Prized) is in foal to Reliable Man and will be offered by Kilmore Farm.

Liberating (NZ) (Iffraaj), who will go through the ring as Lot 405, was a two-race winner and placed in the Group 2 Matamata Breeders' Stakes (1200m). Offered by Highden Park, she is in foal to Reliable Man.

Windsor Park Stud are offering Lot 374, the stakes-placed Fledgling (NZ) (Captain Rio). She is a half-sister to Group 1 winner and sire Fully Fledged (NZ) (Align) and she is the dam of dual stakes winner Bassett (NZ) (Savabeel). Fledgling is in foal to a relative newcomer to the Windsor Park stallion roster, European triple Group 1 winner Charm Spirit .

Seaton Park will present Lot 423, the stakes-placed Nordic Dancer (NZ) (Generous) who is out of a half-sister to the great Rough Habit (NZ) (Roughcast). Nordic Dancer is the dam of two winners including the Group 3-winning mare Decorah (NZ) (Pins), and Nordic Dancer is in foal to Pins and carrying a full-sibling to that mare.

Lot 431 is Rich Hill Stud's Our Chickaroonie (NZ) (Groom Dancer), the dam of the Listed winner Italian Princess (NZ) (Bertolini). She is in foal to Rich Hill Stud's up-and-coming staying sire Shocking .

Brighthill Farm will present Lot 449, the Green Desert mare Real Pzazz . She is the dam of the stakes-performed Renewed Vitality (Redoute's Choice) and also Nina From Pasadena (Redoute's Choice), who is the dam of Group 1 winner Pasadena Girl (NZ) (Savabeel). She is in foal to Brighthill's stallion Dalghar , and also included is another free service to Dalghar for this mare in the 2017 breeding season.

Many of the other broodmares and broodmare prospects in the catalogue have exceptional pedigrees behind them.

Lot 326 is Victoria's Reign (NZ) (No Excuse Needed), a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner Great Command (NZ) (Marscay). She will be offered by Waikato Stud and is in foal to their multiple Group 1-winning stallion Sacred Falls .

Lot 331, being sold by Brighthill Farm to dissolve a partnership, is the Holy Roman Emperor mare Almrose – a half-sister to champion German sprinter Amarillo . The mare is in foal to exciting Inglewood Stud stallion Zacinto .

Lot 384 is Grandissima (NZ) (Savabeel), who is herself stakes-placed and is a half-sister to the Group 1 winner The Mighty Lions (NZ) (Grosvenor) and the stakes winner Marenostro (NZ) (Duelled). She will be offered by Millfield Stud is in-foal to Mapperley Stud's Group 1 winner Contributer .

Little Avondale Stud present Hayley Rose (Lot 387) who is in foal to Sacred Falls (not Super Easy as is catalogued in the printed version) is a winner of 4 races and placed in two Listed races, she has produced one foal yet to race.

Cambria Park offers Lot 391, In The Rain (NZ) (High Chaparral), a daughter of the multiple Group winner and Group 1-placed Irlanda (NZ) (O'Reilly). She is in foal to Horse of the Year Ocean Park .

Lot 392 is Invisible Coin , a Redoute's Choice full-sister to the Group 1 Flight Stakes winner Cheeky Choice . She is offered by Windsor Park Stud and is in foal to their stallion Charm Spirit .

Trelawney Stud will present Lot 415, Miss Danewood – a Danehill daughter of the multiple Group 1 winner Foxwood (NZ) (Centaine). Foxwood is also a proven producer, with all 10 of her foals to race being winners. They are headed by the Group 3 winner Rockwood (Rock of Gibraltar) and the stakes-placed Miss Foxwood (Fastnet Rock) and Quartz Reef (Redoute's Choice). Miss Danewood is in foal to Contributer .

Lot 453, from Pencarrow Stud, is Rock Rose (NZ) (Road to Rock). Herself a winner, Rock Rose is out of the Group 1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas winner Clear Rose (NZ) (Deputy Governor). Rock Rose is in foal to Novara Park's well-performed new recruit Sweynesse .

Westbury Stud presents the Redoute's Choice mare Scattered Dreams – a half-sister to Miracles Of Life (Not a Single Doubt), who won the Group 1 Blue Diamond and Robert Sangster Stakes. Scattered Dreams is in foal to Westbury's former shuttle stallion Makfi , the sire of the last two Group 1 Australian Oaks and NZB Filly of the Year winners, Sofia Rosa (NZ) and Bonneval (NZ).

Lot 472 is Sweet Charlotte (NZ) (Volksraad), a full-sister to the Group 1 winner Veloce Bella (NZ). Offered by Blandford Lodge, Sweet Charlotte is in foal Atlante – the Group 1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas winner who stood two seasons at Mapperley Stud before his untimely death.

NZB's National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale will be held at Karaka on 8 and 9 May, with the broodmares selling on the second day from Lot 324.
