Single Gaze Bounces Back

Mark Smith - Saturday April 22

Knocked down in the ATC Australian Oaks and a black-eye in the Neville Sellwood Stakes, Single Gaze has a history that reads like a UFC fighter, but the daughter of Not A Single Doubt climbed off the canvas to claim Saturday's $100,000 Listed Tails Stakes (1600m) at Doomben to credit Kathy O'Hara with a stakes double.

The Nick Olive-trained mare defeated Col 'N' Lil (Bradbury's Luck) by half a length with a further half neck back to Cantbuybetter (Casino Prince) in third.

Single Gaze advances her overall record to 4 wins, 3 seconds and 3 thirds from 18 starts for earnings of $1,258,300

It's been a long trip back to here," Olive said on Sky Channel.

"This is probably one of the biggest buzzes I have had in training.

"This mare had the fall and has had so many other problems.

"Even last start, she copped a clod in the eye, nearly lost her eye and that's why we didn't go around in the carnival in Sydney."

Single Gaze completed a good day for Kathy O'Hara who won the Listed Ascot Quality on Sweet Serendipity.

"She is something special, O'Hara said.

Onwards and upwards now and I am really thrilled for Nick and his team.

"I think she is really going to get better once we get over more ground."

Olive indicated that Single Gaze will have her next start in the Group II  Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast on May 6.

A $70,000 purchase by her trainer from the Redbank North draft at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale, Single Gaze advances her overall record to 2 wins, 3 seconds and 2 thirds from 12 starts for earnings of $873,300.

A half-sister to the stakes-winner Le Val (Snitzel), Single Gaze is the third foal of the 3-time Sydney winner Redaluca's Gaze (Intergaze). Redaluca's Gaze has an unraced 2yo colt from the final crop of Commands that was knocked down to Bahen Bloodstock/Eric Lucas for $280,000 at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling sale.

Her yearling colt by So You Think made $250,000 at this year's Magic Millions Gold Coast sale.

Redaluca's Gaze has a weanling colt by Not A Single Doubt and was bred back to Hinchinbrook last spring.
