One to Watch – Wyong

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday March 9

Arrowfield Stud shuttler Maurice (Jpn) had a very impressive debut winner at Canterbury last month in Mazu and the horse he defeated that day was another son of the same sire and he saluted at Wyong on Tuesday as a hot favourite.

The Kim Waugh trained gelding Conrad had no trouble franking the form of Mazu.

Ridden forward to hold the fence and lead under James McDonald, he powered to the line to win the 1200m maiden by three and three-quarter lengths over blue-blooded first starter Mokolua (2f Redoute’s Choice Dear Demi) with another Maurice, Maurice’s Medad in third place.

was bred and retained to race by clients of the Kim Waugh stable and is the second winner from four foals to race from Sydney metro winner No Comment, who was also trained by Waugh.

A sibling by Danzero to Group winners Lucky Secret and Hinting, No Comment had a colt by Your Song last year and is now in foal to another of the young Arrowfield sires in Pariah.

Maurice

Conrad is the third Australian winner for Japanese Horse of the Year and Champion Miler Maurice.
