One To Watch – Doomben

Mark Smith - Wednesday March 3

The Rich Enuff gelding Orbisyn looks to have a very bright future after making a winning career debut in very testing ground over 1100m at Doomben on Wednesday.

Ridden by Ryan Maloney for trainer David Vandyke, Orbisyn travelled sweetly on the outside of the leader My Girl Rocks.

When Maloney asked for an effort, he found an immediate response. The 3yo gelding defeated Head Legislator (Headwater) by two and a quarter lengths with a further one and a quarter length back to Shamaton (Whittington) in third.

“I was hoping he would have a good experience, and he had the best possible experience today,” Vandyke said.

uo;I’m delighted for his owner Jan McMillan, who bred him. She had the mother and comes to the races all the time at Doomben. She is just a good person to train for, and she has been nice and patient. “That is how we get these horses having their first start at three and winning like that.

“He has a lot of ability and can keep climbing the ladder. But I just want to keep stringing these good experiences. He might be in the paddock next week, or he might go to a class 1, I’m not sure.

“The thing is, he will be a great five-year-old and I want to get him there".

Maloney said the 3yo son of Rich Enuff is still very new.

“What he did was on raw ability because he has no idea what was going on for virtually the entire race,” Maloney said.

“He put two on them and then stargazed up the rest of the straight.”

Orbisyn is the seventh and final live foal out of the Mukaddamah (USA) mare Another Syn who has six winners from as many to race, including the stakes-placed Magic Talent (Show A Heart).

A 4-time winner in Brisbane, Another Syn was a half-sister to the two-time NZ Horse Of The Year Seachange and the Group 1 winner Keepa Cruisin’.
