Looking for Love at the Gold Coast?

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 15
The 2017 Magic Millions March Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast on March 20 and 21 offers a treasure trove of talent and features 29 entries by Queensland's leading young sire Love Conquers All.

Magic Millions in March is renowned for producing its share of good horses with $7million earner Buffering the obvious standout and his sire Mossman is also the sire of Love Conquers All.

Love Conquers AllA top class Group II winner with multiple Group I placings, Love Conquers All has been well supported at Sun Stud since his retirement in 2012.

He achieved early success finishing second to Smart Missile on the Australian First Season Sires List last year and has powered on this season to post his first stakes-winner.

Superstar jockey Joao Moreira teamed up with former top Victorian trainer John Meagher to win the Group II MRC Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield with exciting filly Savanna Amour.

Meagher was a leading trainer in Singapore where Moreira was rewriting the record books before his move to Hong Kong. He then returned to Australia to set up a training business with son Chris in Queensland.

Savanna Amour - Grant CourtneyA $100,000 purchase by Ontrack Thoroughbreds at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling sale, Savanna Amour was third in the Group III MRC Kevin Hayes Stakes at her second run in Melbourne and then did best in a thrilling finish to take the Group II assignment by a short half head in a driving finish.

"She's very good and I'm happy to be putting on these colours and win again for these connections," said Moreira, who won the Group I VRC Newmarket Handicap for OnTrack Thoroughbreds aboard Brazen Beau.

Meagher said it was great to get some black-type with the Queensland filly.

"She's a really decent filly, only lightly raced," Meagher said.

"Thank goodness Grant (Morgan of Ontrack Thoroughbreds) has given us great support, he has a good eye for a horse and is a decent bloke so it's a great story."

A great advertisement for her sire, Savanna Amour has the overall record of three wins and two thirds from eight starts with earnings of $244,500.

Another three-year-old filly with an Autumn stakes agenda is the Scott Morrisey trained, Perilous Love.

A bargain $9,000 purchase from the 2015 edition of the Magic Millions March Yearling Sale, Perilous Love demolished a large fieldby five and a quarter lengths in the Hiflow Industries High Fives! QTIS 3YO Handicap (2030m) at Doomben on March 11.

With three wins from her last four starts, Scott Morrisey now has his sights firmly set on the $1,000,000 Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m) on April 8.

"It’s a family we know well. Her dam is a half-sister to Pembleton (a high class Group 2 winner for the Morriseys) and there’s a bit of stamina there,” Morrisey said.

Second dam Royal Aria won up to 2000m and the pedigree contains Group 1 Vinery (2000m) winner Mirjulisa Lass and Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) winner Fulmonti.

Currently Queensland’s leading second crop sire, Love Conquers All’s success has come from small crops of just 58 and 59 live foals.

However, in his third season Love Conquers All covered 182 mares and in his fourth 184, so whatever success he has achieved so far is set to blossom further as these larger crops hit the track.
