Caithness Hit a Home Run with $600,000 Capitalist Colt

Tara Madgwick - Monday March 1

Sean Dingwall and his family have spent years developing the Caithness Breeding brand and got a big result at Inglis Premier on Monday when selling a $600,000 Capitalist colt.

$600,000 Capitalist colt bred and sold by Caithness Breeding.

A half-brother to stakes-placed Alshibaah, the powerhouse colt was bought by Boomer Bloodstock/ Lindsey Smith and is the sixth foal from Asheerah, a winning Redoute’s Choice daughter of Group I winner Rewaaya, who comes from the Nasmah branch of the famed Easy Date family.

“It’s amazing and humbling. It’s by far our highest ever result at this sale, I think the previous best was about 230k. It’s all a bit surreal at the moment,” said Sean Dingwall.

“He’s gone to a lovely stable in Lindsey Smith, so he’ll get every chance.”

The star colt is the sixth foal of Asheerah, a Shadwell Stud bred mare that was bought by Caithness Breeding for $80,000 from the Yarraman Park draft at the 2018 Inglis Broodmare Sale when in foal to Brazen Beau.

The result of that mating was a filly that Caithness sold for $135,000 as a weanling and after missing the next year to Deep Field, she produced the Capitalist colt that has proven to be a game changer.

Asheerah had no foal last year after unfortunately missing to Flying Artie and now appears to be in foal to Toronado (IRE).

Capitalist is enjoying sensational results at Inglis Premier with 11 yearlings averaging $197,273 during the first two sessions.
